- Of course it’s a luxury suite, if it costs $3,000 a night.
- No way was DSK — or the IMF — paying $3,000 for the suite. DSK, as a French VIP and the future president of France, would have booked a perfectly nice room and then gotten upgraded by the (French) hotel to the best suite they had.
- DSK was on “personal business”, which not only means that he doesn’t have immunity, but also means that the IMF probably wasn’t paying for his room.
- If you want an insight into what it means to be a real VIP, look at DSK’s deal with Air France, where he can rock up to the airport and automatically get a first-class seat on the next flight out. Who pays for that, and how much they pay, is surely highly confidential.
- DSK will never stay at the Sofitel again. This is good for all concerned.
- Accepting this kind of VIP treatment absolutely constitutes low-level corruption.
- You can be a lech in France. But don’t mess with a New Yorker. Not even in a French hotel.
